Stok & Markha Valley TrekDuration of the Leh Ladakh Trekking Tour: 19 Nights - 20 Days
Stok Kangri is a delightful trekking peak that lies in the Ladakh area in the northern part of india. The capital city Leh is the starting point of your trek towards the fascinating Markha valley. The long trek is designed to help your body to ajust to altitude and maximize your acclimatization before the summit bid. You trek in unspoiled Indian Himalayan region through arid landscape and remote valleys. From Base Camp you wake up in early morning to start your climb for an awe-inspiring sunrise at the summit. From the top you enjoy the magnificent view over Indus Valley, Karakoram Range and Pakistan mountains. Combining the Marka Valley Trek with the Stok Kangri ascent allow to gain altitude steadily and to acclimatize to the low oxygen conditions before reaching the summit . Although very safe and technically straightforward, the climb on Stok Kangri remains challenging with crossing high passes, boulder terrains and steep snow slopes. The climb of Stok Kangri provides stunning views over the Ladakh region, the Karakoram valleys and the the Himalayan range across Tibet. It is a very imposing monastery and one of the finest example of Ladakhi architecture of any type. Day 14: Acclimatization day at base camp From base camp, we climb straight up the moraine, which stands immediately above our camp. This is tiring work first thing in the day but it soon eases to give a gentle descent and access to the glacier beyond. Depending on snow conditions we may put on crampons as soon as we walk onto the glacier. The surface of the glacier will probably be uneven and furrowed by melt water streams. There are a few, very small crevasses, which are crossed easily. At the top of the glacier the slope steepens as we climb up onto the south face where the camp is located on a promontory of rough ground at approximately 5,300m/17,400ft. Using this high camp also engenders a real 'expedition feel' and heightens the anticipation of the climb itself. Overnight Tent. Day 15: Summit day Our route initially crosses scree and boulder slopes, and then leads to easy angled snow slopes, which require ice axe and crampons. The route is not difficult but at this altitude, it will be strenuous. From the summit of Stok Kangri (6116m), we should see as far as the Karakoram, the Pamirs and Tibet. If it's warm enough we'll rest and recover some energy on top before descending to base-camp. Overnight Tent.
